EastEnders (BBC, 2014)

Pete was born in East London and grew up watching the BBC’s flagship soap, EastEnders, dreaming of one day working on the show. He even wrote to the producers at the age of sixteen asking for a job.

Eventually, after writing a number of spec episodes for the show on a BBC Shadow Writing scheme, he successfully joined the Writersroom at EastEnders in 2014. He was selected by Executive Producer, Dominic Treadwell Collins, to write an episode about series regular Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) and her mum Jean as Stacey prepared to appeal a prison sentence for murder.

The episode drew from Pete’s personal experiences of being a carer to a parent with bipolar affective disorder, whilst also being diagnosed with the condition himself - just like the character of Stacey. Broadcast in August 2014 the episode was watched by over eight million viewers, was chosen as a critic’s choice in various TV magazines and newspapers, and marked Pete’s first screenwriting credit for the BBC.
